The circular route travels along forest roads and through idyllic villages. Sections of the route run along larger roads. A part of the route also crosses the regional border to Pirkanmaa. In Kalajärvi in Peräseinäjoki, you can find accommodation on a campsite or in a cottage. Kalajärvi Resort also offers a wide range of activities for a longer stay.
In Peräseinäjoki, you can also learn more about the region’s interesting history at the Finnish Emigrant Museum. The World of Trails Heritage Park on the shore of Alajärvi offers an introduction to the lives and experiences of Finnish emigrants in various parts of the world. The museum area’s first building, the Hakala ‘American’ House, opened to the public in the summer of 2008. At the Hakala House, visitors can learn about migration to the US and the life of Matti Hakala and his offspring. Other buildings in the area include a sugar caners’ barrack received from Queensland, Australia, as a donation; the Matti Unkuri house, a log house from Siberia, and the Knuuttila house from Canada. Alavus is home to Art Gallery Harri, which hosts an exhibition of Arabia’s milk jugs, an exhibition on composer Toivo Kuula, an exhibition of Matti Annala’s works and a veterans’ memorial room, in addition to changing summer exhibitions.
