The Ancient Mountains route runs along the remains of the ancient mountains Parra, Kakkorinvuori, Susivuori and Pyhävuori, which were eroded by retreating glacier at the end of the Ice Age.
Along the route, you can explore several side routes and visit numerous fascinating natural sights, such as expansive shingle beaches formed by the Ice Age, canyons, cliffs, herb-rich woodlands, and bogs with rich flora. You will also find viewing towers and lean-tos along the route. You can embark on the route from various points but in Karijoki, for example, the route begins a stone’s throw from the centre.
