Family destination
For families, South Ostrobothnia is the place to be. Our spectacular sights and attractions offer a lot to do for families of all size. Are you adrenaline-driven or seeking for lovely animals and relaxed farm stay? Look no further – we have it all.
Shall we go crazy in an amusement park?
There is one region above all, when it comes to family holidays – and of course it is us! From South Ostrobothnia, you can find the biggest amusementpark in Finland, Huvivaltio Powerpark. Wonder what “huvivaltio” means? Huvi translates into fun, and valtio is a state or region. Either way, there is plenty of space to have fun, for all ages! When looking for a place to stay after long day in the amusement park, look into Härmän Kylpylä, a spa nearby, and make sure you’ll book at least a day for that as well. Kauhava region, where those both are located, offers a lot for families and kids, so maybe you want to leave some air on your plans ? All in all, our tip for scheduling a holiday is that don’t make it too tight. You’ll enjoy more when you’re not in a hurry. And you know what’s best? There is always the next holiday.
Animals, that’s what we are looking for! Or sauna, maybe?
Ähtäri region offers Finnish nature at it’s finest. Did you know that we have a zoo? And not one but two snow pandas? Lumi and Pyry arrived to their new home in 2018, and immediately stole our hearts. The zoo does a lot of important educational work, and the park is well maintained and animals create brilliant bonds with their caretakers. Their social media is full of hearty stories about animals, because those who tell them, actually work in the park! Such a nice detail showing the best of Ähtäri Zoo. Close by the zoo is a hotel, cottages, really good paths and bike routes, padel courses, activity/climbing park and a restaurant – and what would Finland be without a sauna by the lake? Indeed. If you’re keen on enjoying the lakeside, you have a lot of options despite the fact that South Ostrobothnia is actually not known of lakes at all. Peräseinäjoki has a nice destination Kalajärvi Resort, where families spend their perfect summer holidays – and it is not too far from our big family attractions so why not stay in Kalajärvi, and choose it as your basecamp?
Another nice tip for those looking for animals and a good will destination – go check out Wanha Markki (which actually means old yard. That traditional house has been playing an important role as an elderly home for abandoned animals – or just those enjoying their best years. Wanha Markki also has a shop and café, and you can enjoy sunny summer days sipping cold drinks and eating soft ice cream outside, watching what the yard residents are up to.
